MICROCAPITAL EVENT: European Fund for Southeast Europe (EFSE) Annual Meeting 2008 Conference on Responsible Finance

EUROPEAN FUND FOR SOUTHEAST EUROPE (EFSE) ANNUAL MEETING

MAY 6-8, 2008, HOTEL RAMADA, SIBIU, ROMANIA

The European Fund for Southeast Europe will hold their second annual meeting on May 6-8, 2008 at the Hotel Ramada in Sibiu, Romania. The conference will focus on the topic of responsible finance with respect to sustainable development and social return and is to be attended by over 200 participants from development finance institutions, donor agencies, international organizations, microfinance institutions, commercial banks, including institutional investors, policymakers, and Central Bank Governors of the Southeastern European Region.

In addition to responsible finance, presentations and panel discussions will also cover capital market development in Southeastern Europe, future market opportunities, new products, and the integration/transformation of microfinance institutions.

The conference will be held in English.

Founded in 2005 by a Luxembourg-based investment fund (SICAV-SIF), the European Fund for Southeast Europe (EFSE) provides long-term financial services to microfinance institutions in the Southeastern European region for lending to microenterprises, small businesses, and private households.

EFSE invests in banks, non bank financial institutions, rural banks, cooperative/credit unions, and non profit institutions, offering loans, debt securities, equity investments, guarantees and technical assistance to their clients. The fund’s active portfolio includes The Foundation for International Community Assistance (FINCA), Kosovo, ProCredit Bank (Serbia, Romania, Macedonia, Kosovo and Bosnia and Herzegovina) and Opportunity Bank in Montenegro. Their total assets as of December 2007 were reported at USD 557.2 million with USD 127 million projected for microfinance investments in the next twelve months.

The European Fund for Southeast Europe is promoted by Kreditanstalt fur Wiederaufbau (KFW) Banking Group of Germany and managed by Luxembourg-based Oppenheim Pramerica Asset Management. Bankakademie Frankfurt acts as the fund’s advisor.
