WASHINGTON and JAKARTA, May 1 – MIX announced the opening of a new East Asia office, in Jakarta, Indonesia, to be staffed by regional partner MICRA (Microfinance Innovation Center for Resources and Alternatives). The new partnership is part of MIX’s global efforts to provide more detailed and responsive coverage of microfinance. By working with local partners, MIX can provide faster data availability and a richer representation of the industry throughout the developing world.

MICRA, an Indonesian foundation focused on the development of the microfinance industry to increase outreach to the populations in the country, has a staff of more than 30 experts in microfinance, banking, research and IT. A team of MICRA staff – including researchers and raters – will work on collecting and processing information from MFIs throughout the East Asia region for performance analysis and benchmarking purposes.

MICRA, or the Microfinance Innovation Center for Resources and Alternatives, is an Indonesian foundation focused on solely on the development of the microfinance industry. MICRA was founded in early 2006 by Mercy Corps, in order to institutionalize and expand its work over the past six years in microfinance throughout Indonesia. MICRA has a staff of over 30 experts in microfinance, banking, research and IT, working in projects all over Indonesia through two offices in Jakarta and Banda Aceh.
