WASHINGTON, May 2 – Microfinance Information Exchange (MIX) is pleased to participate in Sanabel Network’s annual microfinance conference, titled Advancing Arab Microfinance: Greater Social Impact Through Inclusive Financial Systems, and to be held in Tunisia May 6 – 8. MIX will present on the important role transparency plays in helping microfinance become part of the mainstream markets.

The conference will be the largest gathering of microfinance professionals and stakeholders in the region. Distinguished international and regional experts will share their insights about the latest developments in the sector and their implications for the Arab world. In addition, practitioners and participants will examine the successes and challenges faced by Arab microfinance institutions as they mature, diversify, reach new products, access new sources of funding and contemplate transformation while fulfilling their social missions.

In addition to a speaking on transparency, MIX will participate in awarding certificates for transparency to those MFIs who receive a four or five diamond transparency rating on MIX Market, MIX’s online platform for data and information covering all segments of the microfinance industry.

The Sanabel Microfinance Network of Arab Countries was established in 2002 by 17 members in 7 Arab countries as a membership-driven regional network for microfinance institutions (MFIs) in the Arab world. Currently, there are 53 members in 11 countries, serving more than 90 percent of the total active microfinance clients in the region.

Sanabel’s mission is to maximize outreach to microentrepreneurs in the Arab world by providing microfinance institutions with a forum for mutual learning and exchange of information, capacity building services, and advocacy for best practices in microfinance.
