PRESS RELEASE: European Microfinance Week 2008 – Call for Speakers and Papers

LUXEMBOURG, August 11 – The European Microfinance Platform, e-MFP is currently preparing for the European Microfinance Week, November 12th – 14th, 2008, [in] Luxembourg.

European Microfinance Week (EMW) will welcome around 250 participants from different sectors of microfinance (banks and financial institutions, government agencies, NGO’s, consulting firms, researchers and universities). It is a wonderful opportunity for microfinance actors to make new contacts, collaborate on joint initiatives, exchange ideas and experience, debate policy, and current ‘hot topics’.

The overall theme of this year’s event is: ‘Frontier Issues in Microfinance – opportunities and challenges for European actors.’ Some of [the] issues to be included in the programme will be: Social responsibility, Food crisis, Technology, International and Local funding, Reaching the Most Vulnerable, Risk and Disaster Management, [and] Microinsurance and Social Security.

e-MFP members have been invited to propose topics in addition to coordinators and speakers for the different sessions. Preference will be given to workshops that emphasise collaboration between e-MFP members and speakers from developing countries.
