NEWS WIRE: Women Urged to Optimize Micro-Finance Institutions

WOMEN Development Associations in Kano state have been advised to utilize the opportunities of new micro-finance institutions initiated by the Central Bank of Nigeria in order to improve their economic empowerment programmes.
An industrialist, Alhaji Babangida Lamido gave the advice at the inauguration of the executive council members of the women wing of Voice of NGOs, held at Aminu Kano College of Islamic Legal Studies (AKCILS).


Alhaji Lamido who was the chairman of the occasion, stressed the need for the new executive to provide meaningful initiatives with a view to improving the economic development of women in the state.
He said a plan is under way to sponsor two women to India to learn the processing of matches, adding that another philanthropist has shown interest in the same gesture.


In his remark, District Head of Gwale (Ciroman Kano), Alhaji Lamdo Ado Bayero, congratulated the new executive of the women wing of the association and described their election as a challenge to the development of Kano state.
He called on the state government to redouble effort in providing meaningful development to the women and commended the government of Kano state for its concern to the improvement of women.
The district head assured the Kano Emirate Council’s continued support to women development in the state and appealed to them to maintain peace and stability in the association.


Earlier speaking, the national president, Voice of NGOs, Comrade A.A. Ayagi, has said the Voice of NGOs expanded from the state level to the national level with the establishment of four zones including Kano, Bauchi, Lagos and Port Harcourt, adding that the association has the primary objective of speaking under one umbrella on behalf of other associations in the country.


He said the state government has approved the declaration of March 6 of every year to be NGOs’ Day, adding that the association has introduced women vocational training programmes for the development of women in Kano state.
In her speech, the new chairperson of the Voice of NGOs, women wing, Hajiya Alfar A. Usman, expressed the readiness of the members to support the move toward achieving its goals.
