First European Research Conference on Microfinance
June 2-4, 2009, Université Libre de Bruxelles in Brussels, Belgium
The First European Research Conference on Microfinance is being co-hosted by the Centre for European Research in Microfinance (CERMi) and the European Microfinance Platform (e-MFP). The conference consists of workshops and panels where researchers will present their work and discuss it with their international colleagues. The conference will be chaired by Professor Marek Hudon, member of CERMi, from the Université Libre de Bruxelles Belgium and Solvay Brussels School of Economics and Management, and keynote speakers include Professor David Hulme from the University of Manchester, Professor Jonathan Morduch from New York University, and Professor Jean-Michel Servet from the Institut Universitaire d’Etudes du Développement de Genève.
CERMi launched a public call for papers in November. If selected, these papers will be discussed in depth at the conference. The topics of the paper were limited to areas relevant to microfinance and include the following: social impact, gender and women empowerment, governance and efficiency of microfinance institutions, rural microfinance, the link between financial and microfinance institutions, public policies, and innovation of microfinance products. The goal of the conference as stated on the conference website is to meet the growing demand of “precise academic research within microfinance and credit institutions, banks and development investment funds in Europe and abroad.”
The conference will be held in Brussels, from June 2nd to June 4th at the Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB), Campus du Solbosch, Avenue F. D. Roosevelt, Brussels, Belgium. Fees range from 225 for Northern non-academics to 50 for Southern country students. To register, please visit http://www.microfinconf.eu/registration-form.html. For more information, please contact:
