Summary of Event: The ILO Summer Academy on Sustainable Enterprise Development is a two week course that offers participants an overview of the existing tools and knowledge base in the enterprise development field, with an emphasis on the role of the private sector in social and economic development.
Background on Organizer: The International Training Centre was established by the International Labour Organization and the Italian Government in 1964 in Turin, Italy, as an advanced vocational training institute. The Centre provides training and related services that develop human resources and institutional capabilities, and furthers the ILO’s pursuit of decent work for all. Since its creation, the ITC-ILO has hosted more than 100,000 participants coming from all over the world.
The Enterprise Development Program uses the results of ILO research to create enterprise development practices in different regions of the world. They design courses that focus on the dissemination of good practice and techniques, including:
- Entrepreneurship education
- Improving the business environment for small businesses and micro-enterprises
- Financial services for small businesses and micro-enterprises
- Business development services
- Women’s entrepreneurship development
- Socially responsible enterprise restructuring
- Human resources management, job quality and productivity improvement
- Local economic development
