In the wake of the regime change in Iraq, USAID has taken the initiative in establishing microcredit programs through Iraqi banks and lenders to bolster the infant economy. Banking reforms on the whole have been successful in Iraq thus far, and microfinance schemes are seen as a necessary component to support the small businesses that will emerge to shrink the countrys unemployment problem.
