MICROFINANCE EVENT: European Research Conference on Microfinance; June 3 - 5, 2019; Paris, France

The sixth annual European Research Conference on Microfinance will focus on the ways in which financial technology (fintech) innovations are shaping the ways that microfinance institutions operate, including the advantages and disadvantages of deploying fintech in developing nations. Many of the topics are centered around the following question: “Is it about creating, redistributing or capturing new forms of wealth, and if so, who benefits from it?” Sample session titles include: Local and Rural Development, Microfinance in Developed Countries, and The Promise of Digital Finance. Background on Organizers: The event is organized by three French academic institutions: Institut de Recherche pour le Développement (IRD), Montpellier Business School and Paris Dauphine University. Founded in 1937 and headquartered in Marseille, IRD is a research institution that was established by the Ministry of Higher Education and the Ministry of European and Foreign Affairs. The school focuses its research on the relationship between humans and their environment in places such as Africa, Latin America, Asia and French tropical regions. Established in 1897, Montpellier Business School is higher education institution focussing on training future managers and executives by strengthening awareness of global responsibility, diversity and the ability to adapt to environmental changes. Paris Dauphine University, established in 1968, is a public research institution known for its programs in finance, economics, law, mathematics and business strategy.
