Description:
United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Credit Guarantees provides guarantees to microfinance institutions (MFIs), which allow MFIs to leverage their funds and increase lending. USAID Credit Guarantees provides Loan guarantees, which provide coverage on the principal of a loan to a pre-specified individual; loan portfolio guarantees, which provide coverage on a series of loans to a pool of borrowers; bond guarantees, which provide coverage to bond investors; and portable guarantees, which provide coverage on principal and allow the institution to search for the best loan package. All guarantees can provide up to 50 percent coverage on the principle.
