Established in 1925, the Bank of Albania is the nation’s central bank.
Description:
The Bank of Albania regulates commercial banks, cooperatives, non-bank financial institutions, savings and cooperative banks and certain non-profit institutions. The responsibilities of the Bank are to ensure the soundness of the financial system through the licensing process and regular supervision. Microfinance as a financial activity is contingent to banking activity and falls under Art. 26 of the Banking Law.
