Wall’s Street Advisor Services (WSAS), an independent investment research consultancy, released the first of a new series of benchmarks for equity investments in microfinance institutions (MFIs) – the WSAS MFI Shareholder Value Indexes (SVIX).
The SVIX series offers investors and researchers measures of changes in shareholder value of a diversified and consistent set of MFIs. The SVIX Indexes consist of a series of annual ‘Vintage Indexes’ (indexes measuring changes by year in the value of shareholders’ investments in a set of MFIs), and a ‘Composite Index’ (blending investment results across the annual Vintages).
A press release from WSAS claims “the WSAS MFI SVIX series are unique in capturing changes in shareholder value arising from cash and stock dividends received and from the sales of new shares and shares in secondary transactions, in addition to factoring in MFIs’ operational results and currencies’ exchange rate.”
The results covered are from 51 MFIs in 32 countries. Executive summaries of the results for WSAS MFI SVIX 2005, WSAS MFI SVIX 2006 and WSAS MFI SVIX Composite can be seen at the WSAS website: www.wallsstreetadvisorservices.com/the_wsas_mfi_shareholder_value_index_series.
