The European Microfinance Platform (e-MFP), a network of approximately 120 organizations involved in microfinance in developing countries, has announced that the deadline to apply for the 3rd European Microfinance Award has been extended to September 30, 2010 from September 1, 2010.
The European Microfinance Platform (e-MFP), a microfinance network comprised of approximately 120 organizations and individuals, has extended the deadline for applying to its European Microfinance Award 2010 event that MicroCapital announced on June 16, 2010, from July 15, 2010 to September 1, 2010.
The award, which includes a premium of EUR 100,000 (USD 122,000) will be presented by the Luxembourg Ministry of Foreign Affairs on November 30, 2010, during the European Microfinance Week.

Summary of event: The theme for the 2009 meeting will be ‘Microfinance in a new financial era’ and will examine how the microfinance sector has reacted in the face of the global financial crisis. A combination of plenary, workshop and roundtable sessions will ensure participants make the most of their opportunity to stay informed, debate and contribute to discussions.

Buusaa Gonofaa, an Ethiopian microfinance institution (MFI) has won the 2nd European Microfinance Award, which is worth EUR 100,000 in prize money. The prize, provided by the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, was announced at the European Microfinance Week event (12–14 Nov), hosted by the European Microfinance Platform. This year’s award was designed to recognise and reward microfinance players who had produced outstanding work in the area of social responsibility. Buusaa Gonofaa were rewarded for their development of an innovative system for determining customer needs and evaluating changes in their social well-being.

The European Microfinance Platform (eMFP), a microfinance information exchange network for European financial institutions, government agencies, NGOs, consultancy firms, researchers and universities with interests in developing countries, will host its third annual Microfinance Week. The theme this year is “Frontier Issues in Microfinance – Opportunities and Challenges for European Actors” and will focus on working group sessions for participants on Rural Outreach, Social Performance and MFI Networks, among other matters.
RISK MANAGEMENT EXCELLENCE IN MICROFINANCE: CONNECTING LUXEMBOURG TO LEADING MFIS WORKSHOP

This workshop on microfinance risk management is being hosted by; the Agency of Transfer of Financial Technology (ATTF), which was created by the Luxembourg Ministry of Finance to focus public funding in financial training, consultancy and technical assistance; Appui au Développement Autonome (ADA) a Luxembourg-based nongovernmental organization (NGO) that facilitates the microfinance development fund Luxmint and provides technical and financial support to Latin American, Asian and African microfinance institutions (MFIs); and Risk Management Professionals in Luxembourg (PRiM), an association that provides a forum for discussion, exchange and knowledge on global risk management topics.
