CGAP (Consultative Group to Assist the Poor), a US-based, nonprofit policy and research center that aims to facilitate the expansion of financial access, has announced the opening of its annual photo contest to entries of original images that capture the “diversity and dynamism of microfinance and financial inclusion around the world”[1]. Participants may submit up to 20 images, and a panel of judges, which will include professional photographers and photo editors, will select first-, second- and third-place winners as well as regional winners based on “originality, technical excellence, composition, overall impact and artistic merit”[1]. A “people’s choice” award will be granted to the photo that earns the highest number of votes submitted by the public via CGAP’s website.
The prizes for the winning entries are gift certificates for photography equipment valued at USD 2,000 each for the winners of first place and the “people’s choice” award, USD 500 for second place, USD 250 for third place, USD 200 for regional winners and USD 50 for 14 finalists.
Submissions must be uploaded online before midnight eastern US time on October 8, 2014, with the form located at https://photocontest.cgap.org/users/login.
Inquiries about the contest can be directed to Michael Rizzo, CGAP Digital Media Coordinator, at mrizzo1[at]worldbank.org or by telephone at +1 202 473 9594.
