MICROCAPITAL BRIEF: Creation Investments Launches Debt Fund in India to Focus on Microfinance, SMEs, Housing, Education

Creation Investments Capital Management, which is based in the US city of Chicago, recently opened an office in the Indian city of Bengaluru and launched a fund for lending to non-banking financial companies in the country. The target firms are those that lend for micro-, small and medium-sized enterprise; affordable housing; vehicle purchases; and education. Remika Agarwal will lead Creation Investments’ operations in India. The size and target size of the fund have not been released. The firm is also active in areas such as microinsurance and financial technology (fintech).

Remika Agarwal said, “Our portfolio companies, which have withstood the shocks of the COVID-19 pandemic and earlier demonetization in India, remain strong. We continue to seek investments in companies that have robust business models, strong management teams, and sound environmental, social, and corporate governance (ESG) credentials.”

Founded in 2007, Creation Investments is an impact and alternative investment management company with focus on private equity and private credit investment. The firm has funded 23 million businesses in India via investments in Capital Float, Eko, Fusion Microfinance, Muthoot Microfin, OfBusiness, Sohan Lal Commodity, Sonata Finance and Vivriti Capital. Creation also has an office in Mexico. Worldwide, it manages USD 725 million in private funds and other vehicles on behalf of individuals, family offices and institutional investors as of year-end 2020.
