The Group of Twenty (G20), an association of the world’s larger economies, recently released a digital database hosting descriptions of “innovative financial products and services” – other than lending – that are available to micro-, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) across the globe. The entries are classified as offering Cash Management, Credit Guarantees, Factoring, Financial Education, Insurance, Payments, Remittances, Risk Management or Savings. You may view the entries at: https://www.g20smecasestudies.org/case-studies. To submit a case study, you may register for an account at: https://www.g20smecasestudies.org/user/register.
The database was created in collaboration with the Global Partnership for Financial Inclusion (GPFI), which was launched by the G20, and the SME Finance Forum, which was initiated by GPFI.
The SME Finance Forum seeks to support small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) by providing data and research as well as facilitating partnerships among financial institutions, development agencies, policy makers and researchers. The organization is managed by the International Finance Corporation, a member of the World Bank Group.
The Global Partnership for Financial Inclusion (GPFI) is a group of countries and organizations working to carry out the financial inclusion goals of the G20. Its implementing partners include the Thailand-based NGO Alliance for Financial Inclusion, the US-based nonprofit CGAP (Consultative Group to Assist the Poor) and the World Bank.
Established in 1999, the G20 brings together finance ministers and central bank governors of “systematically important” industrialized and developing economies to collaborate on issues facing the global economy. The G20 is made up of representatives from the EU and 19 countries: Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, South Korea, Turkey, the UK and the US.
