Global Partnerships (GP), a US-based nonprofit organization that supports microfinance institutions (MFIs) in Latin America, recently announced that it will make loans totaling the equivalent of USD 1.2 million in three microfinance institutions (MFIs): Pro Mujer, for its Mexican operations; Café y Desarrollo of Mexico; and Fundación Campo of El Salvador [1]. The loans will be disbursed from GP’s Social Investment Fund 2010 (SIF 2010).
The Mexican arm of Pro Mujer in nonprofit Pro Mujer, will receive a local-currency loan equivalent to USD 457,000. Pro Mujer, which has administrative offices in the US and Bolivia, provides health services, microcredit loans and access to saving accounts to women using communal banks. As of 2010, regarding its Mexican operations, Pro Mujer reported to the US-based nonprofit Microfinance Information Exchange (MIX) total assets of USD 10.6 million, a gross loan portfolio of USD 8.9 million, approximately 27,200 active borrowers, return on assets (ROA) of 2.38 percent and return on equity (ROE) of 6.59 percent. Pro Mujer has subsidiaries in five Latin American countries and as of June 2011, the combined savings of its clients totaled USD 20.4 million.
Mexico-based Café y Desarrollo (C&D), the for-profit arm of a nonprofit association of small-scale coffee producing cooperatives named Redcafes, received a loan of USD 265,000. C&D provides its members “low cost” access to credit, training and commercialization services through a member-owned organizational structure. As of June 2011, C&D reported a gross loan portfolio of USD 568,800 and approximately 1,500 members.
Fundación Campo of El Salvador, that provides microenterprise credit to rural clients and communities, will receive a loan of USD 500,000. As of 2010, Fundación Campo reported to MIX total assets of USD 10.5 million, a gross loan portfolio of USD 8.8 million, approximately 6,900 active borrowers, ROA of 4.28 percent and ROE of 11.5 percent.
As of June 2011, GP had USD 36.2 million invested in 30 microfinance institutions that serve approximately 972,000 borrowers in seven Latin American countries.

About Global Partnerships: Established in 1994, Global Partnerships (GP) is a US-based nonprofit organization that supports microfinance institutions in Latin America via a microfinance investment fund strategy. The company has staff based in Seattle, Washington, and Managua, Nicaragua. As of June 2011, GP had USD 36.2 million invested in 30 microfinance institutions that serve approximately 972,000 borrowers in seven Latin American countries. It has three active microfinance investment vehicles (MIVs): Global Partnerships Microfinance Fund 2006 (MFF 2006), Global Partnerships Microfinance Fund 2008 (MFF 2008) and Global Partnerships Social Investment Fund 2010 (SIF 2010).
About Pro Mujer: Pro Mujer, established in 1990 with administrative offices in the US and Bolivia, is a nonprofit organization that provides healthcare and training services in addition to financial services in five countries: Argentina, Bolivia, Mexico, Nicaragua and Peru. Both financial and non-financial services are delivered through communal banks, or peer groups, of 20 to 30 women. About Fundación Campo: Fundación Campo, established in 1996 in El Salvador, is a microfinance institution (MFI) that provides microenterprise credit to rural clients and communities. Fundación Campo partners with formal community development associations to evaluate and monitor loans. Fundación Campo also offers its clients training sessions that cover topics such as credit management, commercialization of agricultural products, environmental management, teamwork and developing project proposals. As of 2010, Fundación Campo reported to the US-based nonprofit Microfinance Information Exchange (MIX) total assets of USD 10.5 million, a gross loan portfolio of USD 8.8 million, approximately 6,900 active borrowers, return on assets (ROA) of 4.28 percent and return on equity (ROE) of 11.5 percent.
