MicroSave, a private consulting company that provides technical assistance to microfinance institutions (MFIs), recently launched its social performance management (SPM) toolkit to assist MFIs and their stakeholders in determining how closely an MFI’s operations are aligned with its social objectives. MicroSave’s SPM methodology reportedly has a strong emphasis on participatory activities that take into account the needs and perceptions of clients and staff. Accordingly, the toolkit includes questionnaires and checklists; guides to facilitate focus groups; and quality of service appraisal and customer satisfaction tools [1]. The launch of the toolkit is a component of MicroSave’s flagship SPM framework whereby MicroSave conducts social performance assessments and guides MFIs in implementing improvements based on those assessments [2].
