Two Pakistani companies, Mobilink Microfinance and CBA Digital Distribution Platform, recently partnered to increase access to digital financial services by allowing Mobilink to offer its customers CBA services. CBA enables 20,000 retailers in Pakistan to offer services such as purchases of “telcos airtime, utility bill payments, digital ticketing, e-vouchers, mobile handsets purchasing, digital courier services and loan repayments.”
Mobilink, established in 2012, aims to promote financial inclusion among individuals as well as micro-, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) by offering digital loans, insurance, savings, payment card and remittance services, including financial services specifically tailored to women. As of 2022, it holds PKR 54 billion (USD 246 million) in deposits for 43 million customers and a gross loan portfolio of PKR 44 billion (USD 200 million) outstanding to 3 million borrowers. Of these borrowers, a majority live in rural areas, and about 1 in 6 are women.
