Nala, a financial technology firm launched in Tanzania in 2018, expanded into Kenya earlier in 2022, allowing money transfers from the US and UK in partnership with Equity Bank, a Kenyan banking group with operations in six African countries. To build on this offering, Nala recently partnered with M-Pesa, a mobile money service of the UK’s Vodafone and Kenya’s Safaricom, to allow users abroad to pay bills in Kenya directly. Users can make these payments from a bank account or credit card.
Nala’s original mission was to help Tanzanians and Ugandans mange their finances via an app. The firm since has grown to serve 50,000 customers in Ghana, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda, the UK and the US.
