ActivEdge Technologies, a Nigeria-based company, and SAP Africa, the South Africa-based branch of German software provider Systemanalyse und Programmentwicklung (SAP), reportedly have partnered to offer a mobile money-transfer service to customers in Nigeria.The partnership will allow ActivEdge to offer various SAP services including SAP Mobile Banking, which allows customers to access banking services remotely; SAP Mobile Consumer Payment, which allows customers to make retail and utility payments from their mobile phones; and SAP Mobile Remittance, which allows customers to make international payments to individuals. In addition, ActivEdge will be able to “build its own intellectual property in rapid response to market demands,” in order to improve its service to clients.
In reference to the new products that will be offered by his company, George Agu, CEO of ActivEdge, reportedly stated that “transactional interaction alone is not adequate to inspire consumers… Customers want end-to-end mobile experiences that enhance their daily rituals, from shopping to banking” [1].
As of December 2013, SAP reported total assets of EUR 22.1 billion (USD 29.8 billion), total revenues of EUR 16.8 billion (USD 22.7 billion), total operating expenses of EUR 12.3 billion (USD 16.7 billion) and approximately 66,600 employees [2].
