The Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU), the business information arm of The Economist Group, has published the Global Microscope on the Microfinance Business Environment 2011. This annual report ranks the environment for microfinance in 55 countries and has placed Peru at the top of the list in terms of “overall microfinance business environment,” followed by Bolivia, Pakistan and Kenya. Pakistan, the Philippines and Uganda top the “Regulatory Framework and Practices” category, and Bolivia and Peru top the “Supporting Institutional Framework” category.
Eight of the top twelve countries are in Latin America largely due to high scores in the Supporting Institutional Framework category.
