Seedstars, a Switzerland-based investment and education firm, is accepting applications from financial technology (fintech) startups looking to scale up their services to women in Africa and Asia who have migrated from their homes or whose family members have done so. Seedstars is offering this support through its Financial Innovations for Women Affected by Migration (FIWAM) programme, which includes three months of technical assistance intended to help participating fintechs realize their investment potential and increase their impact. The application period runs until July 30.
In order to apply, a fintech must: (1) be a profit-oriented company active in Africa or Asia; (2) be in its “growth stage”; (3) have a monthly income of approximately USD 10,000; and (4) present a fintech solution that does or can serve women impacted by migration.
The supporters of FIWAM include the Netherlands-based Impact-Linked Finance Fund, the Austrian Development Agency and the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation.
Established in 2012 and headquartered in the city of Geneva, Seedstars collaborates with financial services providers and governments in an effort “to build sturdy and healthy entrepreneurial ecosystems that drive purposeful social and economic development.” It does this by developing programs, organizing events and making investments in entrepreneurs leading “high-growth companies” across Africa, Eurasia and Latin America.
