A representative of the Nigerian arm of Accenture, a consulting firm with its headquarters in Dublin, Ireland reportedly has advised mobile money service providers in Nigeria to re-strategize their operations so as to increase patronage of their services. Speaking at a mobile money round table event with the theme “Mobile Technology and the Future of Cashless Initiative”, the Head of Payments and Mobility at Accenture Nigeria, Mrs. Henrietta Bankole-Olusina, reportedly said that, “One year after the providers gained the license, the mobile money sector is yet to utilize the factors of the mobile money policy, and play on it with a view to win investments as well as users,” She further disapproved of the current approach of operators who target potential customers who already use other banking services rather than aiming to serve the unbanked. Speaking further, she argued that investment would only come when business models are planned strategically and customer value proposition is made priority with a massive sensitization to convince the market on the advantages of mobile banking.
