The Uganda Revenue Authority (URA), Uganda’s tax collection entity, has introduced a mobile phone payment system accepting tax payments from customers of Abu Dhabi-based Warid Telecom. The system is intended to “make it easier for the tax payers to fulfill their tax obligations.” The program allows tax payments of up to UGX 3 million (USD 1,200). This maximum is expected to be increased in the future. URA expects the platform to collect an average of approximately UGX 100 billion (USD 40.1 million) per month. Warid Telecom provides phones services in Pakistan, Bangladesh, Uganda and Congo [1] [2].
