The Western Union Company, a US-based financial services and communications firm, recently partnered with Cebuana Luhillier, a microfinance services provider in the Philippines, to allow international money transfers through the Cebuana Luhillier app.
Cebuana Lhuillier CEO Jean Henri Lhuillier reportedly said, “Following the successful launch of Western Union services at our retail locations, we are now excited to roll out a digital solution for convenient money transfers in the Philippines…. This is still in line with our commitment of bringing financial inclusion and financial mobility to every Filipino.”
Established in 1988, Cebuana Lhuillier is a member of the PJ Lhuillier Group of Companies (PJLGC) providing services such as “pawning, remittance, microinsurance, micro savings, and business to business micro loan solutions.” PJLGC also is active in hospitality, jewelry and technology services. Financial data on the institution is not available.
Western Union, founded in 1851, provides its services through approximately 550,000 agent locations in 200 countries and territories. During the third quarter of 2020, the firm moved a total of USD 27 billion via consumer-to-consumer transactions.
