Summary of Event: The MMT APAC (Asia Pacific) brings together the regional industry visionaries behind the most innovative projects through-out Asia Pacific to outline exactly how to make mobile money program a success.
Some of the confirm keynote presenters include Rizza Maniego-Eala ( G- Xchange, Inc.), Bin Zhang (Union Mobile Pay), Jojo Malolos (SMART Communications), Kevin Henry (Celcom), Glen Benidy (WING) and Abhishek Sinha (EKO). Pre-conference Mobile Money Academy sessions will help participants take part in role plays and business planning exercises to gain actionable, practical advice from the experts who have implemented successful commercial mobile money launches. The event will include less formal presentations, more roundtables, CEO Q&A sessions, workshops and technology shootout – a rapid fire aid to MMT partner selection.
According to MMT APAC, the Asia Pacific region will see the biggest take up of mobile payments-reaching 3.8 percent of all mobile users by 2012. The World Bank estimates that USD 118.4bn of remittances will flow into East Asia and the Pacific in 2008. The Philippines offers some of the more accommodating regulatory environments for Mobile Money, seeing the potential for MMT to facilitate lower cost, lower value, higher frequency remittances which can have a positive impact on the GDP. Mobile connections in Asia/Pacific will record a 10.2 percent compound annual growth rate for the period 2009 to 2013, led by India, China and Indonesia. Service revenue in Asia/Pacific will show a 4.2 percent CAGR over the same period.

Funds received via the Citi-Obopay Mobile Person-to-Person service can also be accessed with a debit card provided with the service. Similar services with leading banks in India will be announced shortly.
Obopay announced recently an exclusive tie up with Grameen Solutions (the world pioneer of Microcredit) to launch The Grameen-Obopay Bank A Billion Initiative which will provide affordable financial services, including cross-border remittances, money transfer, payments, savings and credit accounts to the under-banked communities helping achieve critical financial inclusion.
