Summary of event: This three-day conference will focus on issues of providing health insurance to the poor, linking microfinance and microinsurance; the African microinsurance experience, and an economic analysis of microinsurance markets.

Background on organizers: This event is organized by the Microinsurance Network and Munich Re Foundation. The Microinsurance Network was originally established in 2002 as the CGAP Working Group on Microinsurance, and is based in Luxembourg. It was organized by donor organizations, multilateral agencies, insurance professionals and other interested parties that are involved in the promotion and support of microinsurance in developing countries. Its mission is to promote the development and proliferation of good-value insurance products for low-income persons by providing a platform for information sharing and stakeholder coordination. Munich Re Foundation, based in Germany, is a private grantmaking foundation. Its focus areas include education and training, science and research, disaster prevention, environmental protection, and public healthcare.
