Held every two years, this conference provides a platform for researchers, professionals, and students to discuss current research in the microfinance industry, particularly as it relates to the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Although the research papers to be presented have not yet been announced, the Sixth European Research Conference on Microfinance in 2019 showcased papers including the following, which were honored with cash prizes: “Preparing fertile ground: How does the business environment affect outcomes from microfinance?” and “The gender of debt and the financialization of development. Insights from rural southern India.”
Background on Organizers: This conference is organized by several European universities in collaboration with Belgium’s CERMi (Centre for European Research in Microfinance) and the Luxembourg-based European Microfinance Platform (e-MFP). This year, the event is hosted by the Yunus Centre for Social Business and Health at Glasgow Caledonian University. The Yunus Centre was established in 2010 and focuses on Community Citizenship and Participation, the Social Economy, and Economics of Health and Wellbeing.
Cost: The fee to attend one day of the conference is GBP 90 (USD 120), and the 3-day registration fee is GBP 150 (USD 200). For students and presenters, the rate is GBP 100 (USD 130). The deadline for registration is May 20, 2022.
