Chicago Microfinance Conference

Navigating the Markets: Microfinance in the New Economy

May 8th, 2009

The Harper Center, the University of Chicago Booth School of Business, 5807 South Woodlawn Avenue, Chicago, IL 60637 USA

The Chicago Microfinance Conference (CMFC) is a collaborative effort by three graduate level business and policy institutions: the University of Chicago’s Booth School of Business, the Harris School of Public Policy Studies at Chicago, and Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management. The CMFC brings together individuals from microfinance institutions, corporate banks, governments, NGOs, and academia, providing an opportunity to discuss key issues facing the microfinance industry.

The CMFC is formulated with a spirit of independence, with the goal of the conference being to create a forum for free and honest discourse regarding microfinance. In this vein, it aims to advance strategic debate and help participants uncover new approaches in the field. In the past, the annual CMFC has featured such speakers as Executive Sectary of the United Nations Capital Development Fund (UNCDF) Richard Weingarten, Chief Business Writer/US Business Editor of the Economist Matthew Bishop, President at ShoreBank Corporation Mary Houghton, President and CEO of Grameen Foundation Alex Counts, and Global Director of Microfinance for Citigroup Robert Annibale, while attracting over 300 participants each year. An event report for the most recent CMFC in 2008 is available at MicroCapital.

Detailed information regarding cost, registration, and conference contents has not yet been made available. For more information, please go to the conference website or send messages to chicagomicrofinance@gmail.com.
