The 18th European Microfinance Network (EMN) Annual Conference is themed “inclusive finance for an inclusive future.” The agenda includes topics such as the digitization of financial services, creating resilient business models and “microfinance as a pioneer in impact investing.” The second day of the event coincides with the 7th European Microfinance Day, an initiative led by EMN that highlights microfinance institutions (MFIs) that comply with the EU’s “European Code of Good Conduct for MicroCredit Provision.” To be deemed in compliance with this code, MFIs must meet thresholds in areas such as ensuring borrowers have sufficient information from which to make product choices that meet their needs, establishing procedures for handling customer complaints, maintaining an independent board of directors, implementing a robust risk management plan and disclosing financial reports.
Background on organiser: Headquartered in the city of Brussels, Belgium, EMN is a nonprofit organization that promotes microfinance as a tool to countract social and economic exclusion in Europe. As of 2021, EMN has 92 members from 25 countries across Europe.
Cost: The fee to attend is EUR 480 (USD 570). EMN members may enjoy a discounted rate of EUR 360 (USD 430). A discount of 10 percent is available until September 15.
