The eighth edition of this biennial event will begin with two days of sessions with titles such as: (1) Remittances and Diaspora Investment as Tools for Climate Change Adaptation; (2) Data and Market Intelligence as the Basis for Effective Decisionmaking; (3) Central Bank Digital Currencies, Blockchain and Cryptocurrencies in the Remittance Space: a Reality Check; and (4) Entrepreneurship and SME [Small and Medium-sized Enterprise] Investment: Economic Development Back Home. The third day of the event is an observance of the ninth International Day of Family Remittances, themed Digital Remittances Towards Financial Inclusion and Cost Reduction.
Background on Organizers: Established in 1977, the UN International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) is governed by its 176 member nations with the goal of eradicating rural poverty in low- and middle-income countries. During 2022, IFAD disbursed a total of USD 934 million in loans and grants to governments, private firms and civil society organizations.
Founded in 2003 by the UN, the Office of the Special Adviser on Africa works toward “inclusive sustainable peace, security, socioeconomic development and justice’’ in Africa through advisory, advocacy, coordinating and monitoring activities.
The World Bank Group is a multilateral organization whose goal is “to end extreme poverty and promote shared prosperity in a sustainable way.” As of 2023, it has 189 member nations. The group encompasses: (1) the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the International Development Association, which make up the World Bank; (2) the International Finance Corporation; (3) the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency; and (4) the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes. During the 12 months ending June 2022, the World Bank Group disbursed funds totaling USD 67 billion.
