Now in its 11th edition, this event is meant to increase the recognition of Islamic finance as a tool for micro-, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs). Islamic finance makes use of mechanisms such as profit sharing in lieu of borrowers paying interest. On November 21 and November 22, the scheduled sessions include: (1) Global Development and Future Potential of Islamic Microfinance; (2) Funding Sources to Flourish the Islamic Microfinance Industry; (3) Building Enabling Ecosystems for Inclusive Islamic Finance; and (4) Micro Takaful, Waqaf & Zakat – Supportive Elements for Islamic Microfinance. The following two days feature post-event material on the “Practical Aspects of Islamic and Rural Microfinance” and a local site visit.
Background on Organizer: Founded in 2005, AlHuda Center of Islamic Banking and Economics (CIBE) seeks to facilitate the growth of Islamic financial services worldwide. From offices in Pakistan and UAE, the organization offers “advisory and consultancy, research and development, education and capacity building, Shariah advisory, publication and global events.”
Cost: The fee to attend the two-day forum beginning November 21 is USD 245. The post-event workshops and site visit are available for a separate fee of USD 350. Those identifying as a MicroCapital readers may receive a discount of 25 percent.
