MICROFINANCE EVENT: Global SME Finance Forum; September 19-23, 2022; Phnom Penh, Cambodia

The Ninth Global SME Finance Forum will address the effects of digitalization on the financial sector, including the potential for digital transformation to facilitate “inclusive, sustainable, and responsible finance” for microenterprises as well as small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). The first day of the event offers a meeting of forum members as well as various study tours. September 20 and September 21 include pitch sessions on new technologies as well as plenary panels on topics such as: (1) Transforming Supply Chain Finance Through Digitalization; (2) Agricultural Digitalization; (3) Banking on SMEs: Driving Growth, Creating Jobs; and (4) Digital Currencies, Distributed Ledgers and the Future of SME Financing. The last two days of the forum offer trainings on corporate governance, “responsible” finance and the Green Bond Technical Assistance Program (GB-TAP).

Background on Organizer: The event is organized by the SME Finance Forum in collaboration with National Bank of Cambodia. The forum was founded by the G-20 Global Partnership for Financial Inclusion (GPFI) in 2012 and is managed by the World Bank Group’s International Finance Corporation. Its purpose is to share “data, research and best practice” for advancing the success of SMEs. It has 240 members as of 2022.

Cost: Members of the public may purchase tickets for USD 1,500 or pay a discounted rate of USD 800 until August 30. IFC clients and other forum partners may enjoy a rate of USD 600. There is no cost for members of the SME Finance Forum. Attendees may register in advance online and then pay on-site.
