JUNE 17- 18, 2009, MEXICO CITY, MEXICO
The Rural Microfinance conference, subtitled “Strategies for Reaching the Underserved,” will showcase rural credit union outreach efforts and will provide a forum to discuss new approaches for serving economically disadvantaged and underserved populations. The conference aims to bring together practitioners in the Mexican credit union movement and donor agencies worldwide to discuss the key role of microfinance in fighting poverty.
The Rural Microfinance conference is a collaborative effort between World Council of Credit Unions (WOCCU) and the Mexican Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Rural Development, Fishing and Food (SAGARPA), a government subsidiary. WOCCU is a global trade association and development agency for credit unions established in 1971. In its 2007 annual report, WOCCU stated a total assets of USD 20.9 million and total liabilities of USD 16.5 million.
