MICROFINANCE EVENT: The Grameen Credit Agricole Foundation’s Week; November 19-22, 2018; Montrouge & Paris, France

Crédit Agricole and the Grameen Crédit Agricole (GCA) Foundation have organized this series of events to mark the 10th anniversary of the Foundation. The first event of the week, called “The Foundation and Social Entrepreneurship,” will be held on November 19 in the campus of Montrouge and will include testimonials from entrepreneurs and experts on the Foundation’s promotion of entrepreneurship with social impact. At this occasion, the Foundation and Crédit Agricole will award a cheque to Entrepreneurs du Monde as a result of “Solidarity Cents,” an operation launched at the canteens of Crédit Agricole to support entrepreneurship projects for refugees, single parents and homeless people.

The Foundation’s 10th anniversary evening will be held on November 20th in Paris and will include roundtables on the outcomes of the Foundation’s activities and the role of women in the economy. In attendance will be Crédit Agricole Directors, HRH the Grand Duchess of Luxembourg, Professor Yunus and other high-level personalities.

On November 22nd a third meeting called “Investing in Africa: Myth or Reality?” will be held in the campus of Montrouge. It will shed light on the opportunities and challenges of investing in Africa and the impact of entrepreneurship and financial inclusion on this continent.

Background on Organizer: GCA Foundation was founded in 2008 by Crédit Agricole SA, a French retail bank, in partnership with Muhammad Yunus, the founder of the Grameen Trust in Bangladesh. The Foundation provides funding and technical assistance to microfinance institutions and social businesses with the aim of contributing to the fight against poverty. As of September 2018, GCA Foundation has commitments of approximately EUR 77 million (USD 89 million) outstanding to more than 70 partners in 35 countries in Africa, Asia and Eastern Europe. Its partners serve 3 million clients, of whom 77 percent are women and 74 percent live in rural areas.
