MICROFINANCE EVENT: Women Advancing Microfinance International to Host Forum on Gender and Microfinance in Washington, D.C.

WOMEN ADVANCING MICROFINANCE INTERNATIONAL FORUM ON GENDER AND MICROFINANCE

OCTOBER 22, 2007, WASHINGTON, D.C.

Women Advancing Microfinance International (WAM) will host a one-day forum on gender and microfinance in Washington, D.C., on October 22, 2007. The forum will feature approximately 100 microfinance practitioners, network representatives, and researchers, gathered to discuss and identify challenges. Participants will develop strategies to enhance benefits for clients and to make more effective use of human resources and talents.

WAM’s mission is to advance and support women working in microfinance through education and training, by promoting leadership opportunities, and by increasing visibility of their participation and talent while maintaining a work/life balance.

The forum will discuss the following themes and topics:

  • Gender and Benefits for Microfinance Clients
  • Innovative Approaches to Gender and Microfinance
  • Limitations of Financial Services-Only Solutions
  • Strategies for Promoting Women’s Leadership in the Sector

The forum will serve as a pre-conference event for the 2007 Small Enterprise Education and Promotion (SEEP) Network’s Annual Conference, themed, “Powering Connections.” SEEP’s mission is to connect microfinance and microenterprise practitioners via a global learning network. The 2007 conference will allow participants opportunities to learn, to share, and to engage each other through training sessions, workshops and networking. Excepted conference participants will include practitioners, donors, investors and other key stakeholders in microfinance and microenterprise industry.
