MICROFINANCE EVENT: Women Advancing Microfinance (WAM) Hosts Youth Microfinance Discussion with Annie Bertrand of Mercy Corps

EFFECTIVE FINANCIAL SERVICES TO ADDRESS THE YOUTH BULGE

Women Advancing Microfinance New York (WAM-NY) is hosting a discussion on youth microfinance with Annie Bertrand, World Youth Initiative Advisor at Mercy Corps. In collaboration with the World Bank, Mercy Corps is working with its 12 affiliated microfinance institutions to identify best practices and key success factors which can be replicated at scale. Annie will share preliminary findings and open the discussion for questions and ideas.

The event will take place at the New York Public Library, 188 Madison Avenue, New York City on Thursday, May 29, from 5:45 pm to 7:45 pm. Attendees should RSVP by May 28 at 5:00 pm to katleen.felix@hec.ca.

Annie Bertrand has 15 years of experience in business management, rural education and relief and development efforts. At Mercy Corps she has developed a Youth Transformation Toolkit used to asses, design, implement and evaluate youth development programs in 35 countries. Prior to working at Mercy Corps, Annie’s international experience has included consulting for government agencies and development banks and volunteering with grassroots organizations. Annie graduated from Harvard Business School with a dean’s mention for her leadership. She concentrated on social enterprise and international education through cross-registration with the Harvard Graduate School of Education. She is the co-founder and President of India School Fund (ISF), which provides quality education to 200 children in rural areas. Annie was certified as a professional accountant in 2001 and worked three years in management consulting with a focus on process re-engineering, financial performance management and organizational design. A native of Montreal, Canada, she speaks French, English and Spanish.
