MICROFINANCE EVENT: Women’s World Banking (WWB): Making Finance Work for Women Summit; October 22 – 23, 2019; Singapore

This summit will address barriers to making financial services meet the needs of women and the opportunities that exist to achieve the same. Representatives from the financial services, philanthropy, and technology sectors will discuss topics such as the role of financial and digital literacy in making finance work for women, gender-lens investing and the role of fintech (financial technology) in powering financial inclusion of women.

The presenters will include:

– Mary Ellen Iskenderian, the President and CEO of US-based Women’s World Banking (WWB);
– Liz Kellison, the gender lead for the financial services for the poor team at the US-based Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation; and
– Tosan Oruwariye, the director of strategic partnerships at Senegal-based MaTontine Inc.

Background on organizer: WWB is a charitable organization that seeks to help low-income women and their households via financial services. Among its strategies is conducting client and market research to help financial institutions formulate commercially viable tools that meet women’s needs. WWB has 53 partners in 32 countries, reaching 30 million women. During 2018, its gross revenue was approximately USD 15.1 million.

Cost: The cost to attend is USD 700 as of July 2, but it will increase to USD 1,000 “in the summer of 2019.”
