Summary of Event: This talk will include information on the practices of Kenyan microfinance institution (MFI) Jamii Bora which makes microloans, including loans to beggars, thieves, and prostitutes, and has built a new town that allows slum dwellers to move into new homes.
Background on Organizer: The Silicon Valley Microfinance Network (SVMN) is a San Francisco Bay Area professional organization that aims to “connect, educate and engage people in microfinance” through monthly speaker programs, networking events and training courses.
Event Themes and Discussion Topics: The Director of the Microcredit Summit Campaign, Sam Daley-Harris, will discuss the Campaign’s recent achievements, next steps, and commitment to accelerating awareness and adoption of cutting edge innovations.

About the Presenters: Sam Daley-Harris is the Director of the Microcredit Summit Campaign and founder of RESULTS, a grassroots lobbying organization that is dedicated to mass educational strategies to end hunger. In 1995 he received The Temple Award for Creative Altruism from the Institute of Noetic Sciences and in 1997 he received the Caring Award from the Caring Institute. In 2003 Daley-Harris received the Warner Woodworth Humanitarian Service Award from the Marriott School of Management at Brigham Young University. He is the author of ‘Reclaiming Our Democracy: Healing the Break Between People and Government’ and has edited two microfinance publications ‘Pathways Out of Poverty: Innovations in Microfinance for the Poorest Families’ and ‘More Pathways Out of Poverty’.
