Summary of Event: The summit is being held with the intent to spur development of Nigerian mobile telephony, specifically as a platform for access to microfinance services [1]. It is estimated that microfinance reaches one in 40 Nigerians who need the service, according to a December 2005 study by the Central Bank of Nigeria [2]. Benjamin Pius, Executive director of BSP Events and Forums, which will be holding the conference, cites the 79 million Indians currently accessing financial services this way as a sign of the technology’s potential [3].
